Education and Outreach
CRAG's Education and Outreach Coordinator endeavors to increase
public awareness of issues affecting American Samoa's coral reefs.
In addition to regular school visits, current projects include the
coordination of the American Samoa Teachers' Challenge Awards which
provides small grants to teachers for the materials and supplies
necessary to carry out coral reef lessons and projects, the development
of pre-movie theater slides, brochures and CRAG's monthly newspaper
article published in both English and Samoan. Past projects have
included school visits, radio and television spots, brochures, signage,
and a Legislators' educational field trip.
The CRAG Education/Outreach program has been active via the Le Tausagi, an interagency working group consisting of environmental educators who collaborate on conservation programs and community outreach. Recent ongoing accomplishments include our EnviroDiscovery Summer Camps, Coastweeks celebration, and the Shower of Blessings weekly radio program, as well as a variety of other projects.
